ExOtiC WeEkEnD DeStInAtIoNs ArOuND MUMBAI

Welcome to my blog on weekend destination around Mumbai. I have alwayz loved travelling, and places in and around the city, are my first choice. Thus, I started exploring places around Mumbai for hangouts or a small picnic for a day or two.
Mumbai being the capital of Maharashtra offers many options for travelers and trekkers with its lush green mountain ranges namely “Shayadri” especially during monsoon and the Malvan virgin beaches.  Here are few of the unexlpored tourist attractions with picturesque beauty, where a person can land up and enjoy there weekends to rejuvenate themselves.

1. Kashid Beach – One of the not so popular and unexplored beaches of Alibaug, which offers soothe and fun. The options available for boarding and lodging are affordable with choice of local cuisines. The water sports are the main attraction of this beach. One can bargain too while opting for them. The beach is safe in comparison with other Alibaug beaches.  

2. Malsheghat – It is a hill station situated in Pune district at a It is at a distance of 154 km from south Mumbai towards northeast and 130 km north of Pune. One of the beauties here are many waterfalls in the hilly regions. Various waterfalls from small up to the huge ones are really worth to see. Accommodation options are available at local homes and MTDC resorts also. 

3. Srivardhan – It is 180 kms from Mumbai. The beach sand in white in colour and the beach is long enough so one can rest and explore the beach. Its aloof from the routine tourist crowd. As most of the tourist miss it in their travel plans for not being so popular. However, the beach is clean and virgin and offers plenty space to enjoy outdoor sports like cricket, football etc.  

4. Bordi – Bordi beach is 145 kms from Mumbai and the main attraction of this beach is its safety as the water level does not rise above the waist for half a kilometer. The beach is calm and nature around aesthetic. The sands on this beach are not white but blackish and a bit sticky - the natural form of sand. it can be enjoyed as a day picnic option or one can stay at resorts of MTDC as well as private resorts.

5. Harihareshwar - It is 194 kms from Mumbai. The beach is round in shape and rocky from its sides. On its shore there is an ancient temple.  The food options available are local cuisines especially fresh seafood.  

6. Dhanau - Dahanu is located 65 km north of Virar on the Western Railway line of Mumbai Suburban Railway. It has nice and beautiful beaches. There is nice beach at Parnaka. Nearby Sai temple is located in Narpad.

7. Diu – Diu and Daman are the Union territory situated on the west coast of India.The massive forts, magnificent cathedrals, the locals culture and other impressive monuments of Daman & Diu exude the subtle old world charm of its colonial era. Daman & Diu is renowned for its natural splendor. The white sandy secluded beaches are quite inviting and offer many opportunities for water sports. Owing to its favorable climate, scenic location and serene surroundings, Daman & Diu is the most popular weekend gateway for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.The distance from Mumbai by road is 193 Kms.

8. Rajmachi - is a small village in the rugged mountains of Sahyadri in India. It is a very famous fort located near two famous hills of Maharashtra, Lonavala and Khanadala. Rajmachi fort is a strategic fort overlooking Borghat. Rajmachi peak has two fortified structures - the Shrivardhan fort and Manoranjan fort. In rainy season this place is filled with giant waterfalls and greenery.

9. Karnala- Karnala bird sanctuary is located in Panvel taluka of Raigad district and other nearest hill stations are Matheran and Karjat.  The distance from Panvel is 12km. The bird sanctuary is a popular destination for avid bird-watchers and hikers in the Mumbai area.The sanctuary is home to over 150 species of resident and 37 species of migratory birds who visit the sanctuary during winter.

10. Mahuli Hills It is a popular trekking destination and a paradise for rock-climbers as its surrounded by pinnacles namely Vazir and Vishnu. It is the highest point in Thane District. The forest surrounding of Mahuli has been declared as a sanctuary. There is an open Shiva temple three caves, of which the larger can be used as overnight shelter, like as on many other such natural hill forts of Maharashtra Western Ghats (Sahyadri Range). The nearest railway station to Mahuli is Asangaon.The distance from mumbai is 91 kms .
